Young people 'consider their mobile phone to be their best friend' and would chose it over all other forms of electrical entertainment. So has the post TV entertainment age arrived? The latest Mobile Life Report from the Carphone Warehouse, advised by LSE academic Dr Carsten Sørensen, is the latest stage of a research project started in 2006 looking at the impact of mobile phones on people's lives.

The fifth report titled, Mobile Life Report 2008: the connected world, questioned 6,000 people in the UK and US to explore the relationship adults and youngsters have with mobile and internet technology.

Dr Sørensen, senior lecturer in Information Systems at LSE said "We found interesting similarities and differences in our study of two countries. Although we found differences in the use of email, SMS, instant messaging, and landline phones for staying in touch with friends and family between the two countries, we found no differences in the level of mobile phone use for these purposes."

Sad is'nt it really how people have become. My phone is never my best friend as every phone i bloody buy these days plays up. I do like my phones and gadgets but have become less so recently and getting more of whats called A LIFE. I think people have become so obsessed with phones now its getting boring.

I don't think people are sad buying gadgets/phones, it enhances people lifes!!

But to call a piece of technology a 'friend' is a bit TOO much.

Of course it's true! I'd even go further than calling her my best friend, as I sleep with my Deena right next to me every night, and will continue doing so until someone will replace her in a short time.

But then again, I'm not British

So im British! here in SA things are the same. Some people even dare to use their phones in movie theatres whilest the film is playing, pretty annoying if those people are sitting next to you.
I cant live without my plastic all-in-one friend, it wakes up when i wake up and it goes to sleep when i go to sleep.
