Hey,
I'm applying for a job, this one to be exact:

Now, I've made a few letters this year for other IT jobs, and I thought rather then typing out yet again another letter about the same stuff, I might be able to just use a letter I already have?
This letter got me an interview at a private high school as an assistant ICT technician, I didn't get the job but it did get me an interview.
I would appreciate it if some of you could read the job description and then the letter and tell me if you think the letter is ok as a covering letter.
When I email it to them, I will also include a CV with a full list of my qualifications, but as this is an IT job, I think it's good to focus the covering letter on my IT skill, and not things like history and PE lol.

Obviously I'd take out any references to the school and change it to their company.

It has long been a passion of mine to work with PCs, ever since windows 95 came out I've gotten to know PCs and have often been relyed upon by friends and family to sort out their PC issues.

I don't want them to think that I couldn't be bothered etc, I want them to see that I did try and put the effort in.
Also because my grades are poo, apart from ICT, I feel like I need to brag a lot in my letter to make them see past the CV, if that makes sense.

I do all the hiring and firing for my office, and here are a few things I look out for.
A concise letter, that is to the point. Any spelling mistakes, in file 13. Same again for poor grammar. If a cover letter is too long, file 13. Better a short, to the point cover letter, and a more in depth CV, but not rambling on. 2 pages is about right in my eyes.
People are applying for an interview, so sell yourself in your CV, and when you get an interview, practice your interview techniques. This is where you can really sell yourself.

Hi mate. A covering letter is supposed to cover something else i.e. your CV, not a page and a half of things that should be in your CV. I was told when they look through an application i.e. the sift, you have 30 seconds if you are lucky to grab their attention.
They won't read that, especially if they have lots of others to read. If you decide you are going to use it, the spelling is okay but you ought to run a grammar checker over it. Lots of sentences that should be on their own have been joined up into very long sentences. A sentence should not be four lines long!
Suggest three quarters of a page at most - I am interested in the position of *******, i have experience of ********* and really that's about that.
Different people say different things so the decision is up to you.

So there's mixed opinions, But I suppose it's different for different jobs and employers.
A question, should I lie about my maths grade?
As that's where I feel I'm failing, I got grade F, bloody F!
Although I am retaking maths at college this year (hopefully).
Should I lie and risk getting caught, or just be honest and hope they look at my good points rather then my bad?
