> Dead W880i (turned itself off - please advice)
Bookmark topic
Hi All,
Last night I picked up my W880i from the table, to find it turned itself off. The same thing happened a few times before, slightly annoying, but I just turned it back on and went on with my life.
You're guessing it already; this time it will NOT turn on. It remains dead, whatever I do. There's not a single sign of life, no red light (as I read elsewhere), nothing at all.
I took out the battery, put it back in, tried charging it, connected it to my notebook via USB (which doesn't even recognize it now).
I'm running out of ideas, other than sending it back to SE tomorrow.
But there are several notes, appointments and phone nrs I haven't yet backed up.... Besides, It's quite a hassle to transfer the backup to my old mobile.
Are there any solutions I could try?
Is this a known problem? (the W880 turning itself off sometimes)
TIA for your advice!

Have you tried Sony Ericsson Update Service for free?

Thanks for your reply, but how can I do that? When I connect the phone to the computer via USB it doesn't even react... (not even as a drive).

I think ur GDFS or EROM is corrupted. I have also a dead w880i with corrupted GDFS and there is no sign of life except the red led.

It sounds like the firmware is dead, the gdfs doesn't just detroy itself but i've known firmware to destroy itself, to fix it, it will require a full flash this can be done with xs++3.1 and the correct firmware, the red-led blinking means the erom or flashchip is dead 95% of the time it's the erom.

Can I do this myself - on a dead phone - with xs++?
(I'm not that familiar with the acronyms btw)
There's no red light here BTW, flashing or otherwise.

Yes you can flash it yourself with xs++ , you will need firmware
www.seusers.com is the place for firmware.

Thanks... Can you please tell me:
how to 'find' the phone (as it's completely dead, the computer doesn't find it when I connect the USB cable)
which firmware to choose (I have a sim-lock free universal W880i, I'm living in The Netherlands)
I see all kinds of nations and providers listed
here. My provider is now T-Mobile, but I do want the generic firmware, NOT the T-Mobile or any other provider dedicated firmware...
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm not that experienced with this, and I don't want to mess it up...
Thanks again...
