Anyone watching the Olympics?
What about that Opening Ceremony? Was that incredible or what!
I especially liked the scroll that unfurled itself - such an amazing device!
The 28 'footprints' were great too.

I've just finished watching the entire 6 1/2 hrs of the Men's Cycling Road race and it was superb! The scenery was spectacular and the dramatic finish made the long wait worthwhile.

Currently I'm watching the Womens Weightlifting and this is dramatic too with some competitors bombing out without registering a valid lift while China's Chen Xiexia just lifted an amazing 95kg (she weighs 47kg herself).
Awesome stuff so far...

I missed the opening and can't find it on digital tv either.

The Australian contingent was massive, something like 296 competitors, but the Chinese contingent was something like 400.

I wish I was there, it looked amazing.

Same here, what happened with Tibet is disgusting, someone elses topic about the Olympics was deleted, I wonder if maybe the mods agree?

China does not deserve the Olympics so our house is not watching them this year.

I'm sick to death of the non-stop, wall to wall coverage of smog, troop movements and protesters and I don't want to discuss it here. I always enjoy the Olympics & Commonwealth Games and this looks like the best so far. I'm looking forward to more Cycling, Rowing, Swimming, Fencing and ATM I'm watching some amazing feats of strength in the Gymnastics events.

I didn't know about the previous thread, but this one is for sports fans not arguments.

Great images from the Olympics here. Post your favourite sports image.

What happened in Tibet is nothing compared to other places in the World so I will happily comment if someone opens a dedicated thread on politics. The athletes have nothing to do with Tibet anyway so blame China and not the Olympics.

The Olympics are special because the prize is the medal but no money. The sportsmen and women go there to become the best in the World so the games are played with pride. Its not like football where players cheat, dive, intimidate, smeer etc. to ensure they win, purely because the money involved is astronomical.

The athletes represent themselves so those who believe that they can win can often pull it off, its unpredictable which makes for a good watch. Many people come out as heroes and go down in history, thats got to be more valuable than money.

Watching the Men's Basketball between Russia and Iran ATM, in the background the organisers are playing an electronic tone of "If your happy and you know it clap your hands... "

China has 600+ athletes competing. As they are the host nation they automatically qualify for every sport. Australia has 400ish
