I've been thinking about getting a new computer for a while now, and I found out that I can't get one instantly as in I have to upgrade with my monthly allowance.

So, my parents agreed to buy me a new motherboard and processor to start off with, but I need to figure out the rest by myself... ATM I have an abomination on my table that I didn't realize was crap until now.

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.5GHZ
768MB (256+512MB) DDR166+DDR200
ATI Radeon 9000 64MB (GFX Card)

So, the thing I'm wondering is if the Asus P5Q (not Deluxe or Pro) motherboard can support my crappy old fashion DDR RAM until I get some real hardware. I know it can't support my video card, so don't bring it up please xD

Also, what's the difference between this intel P35 and P45 thing? What does P45 even mean?

Thanks xD

If you want to use old ddr and gfx card, you can buy asrock 4coredual sata2 for now(I have one), it has both ddr and ddr2 slots, also it has both agp and pcie for gfx card.

Another thing: it has two ide connectors

It could actually last me until I save up for a full comp. (supports my GFX, RAM and HD).

Is there anything like this that supports DDR2 800MHZ memory?

This board supports DDR2 800MHZ memory, but will use it in lower frequency.

So if I were to buy DDR2 800MHZ memory, it would work but run at 667MHZ? Also, do the DDR slots support anything under and including 400MHZ memory?

Sorry, just making sure

Yes, I have one 2GB(psd22g8002h) and one 1GB(psd21g8002h) ddr2 800mhz patriot memory installed, and yes it supports all type of ddrs(i had one 256mb and one 512mb and they were working with this board).

Check this and this.

If you want to buy quad core cpu now, don't buy this board!
