I'm thinking about getting this phone. The only issue is, I'm struggling to find anywhere on the high street that sell this phone with the generic firmware - if I want it on T-Mobile (which I do) I have to accept the T-Mobile firmware.

So I thought I'd ask, what would I be missing out on if I go ahead and get the phone with the T-Mobile firmware? The phone has been out for a while now, but the is branded firmware still unstable?

As the handset has been out for quite a while now, you will find very little probs with the W880i on any network, whether it be branded or generic as they have ironed out pretty much all the bugs. Personally, I try to keep away from the heavier branded handsets when they first launch (I.e Vodafone and Orange), as these tend to give the most most problems (not scientific analysis, just my experience)!

Thanks, that's one less thing to have to worry (well, not worry - you know what I mean) about.

Is there anyone who owns (or has owned) the W880i with the T-Mobile firmware? Or at least a Sony Ericsson Walkman with T-Mobile firmware and can give me a quick run down of the differences from unbranded firmware?

I can get the phone £90 branded from Phones4U, or £190 unbranded from CPW. I assume that unbranded firmware isn't £100 "better"?

hi mate

if you dare to do it yourself you can debrand it. you just need a program(xs++ or setool lite) and the firmware(FS + MAIN) and you'll have a phone with a generic firmware.

you can do it in less than 15 mins.

Yeah that is something I'm considering. But knowing my luck, I'd mess it up and end up with an out-of-warranty brick. If I can get along with the branded firmware, I'd probably just stick to that.

My dad had the t-mobile one.

It had a t-mobile logo on the front at the bottom instead of the walkman logo

Software wise it had the startup and shutdown screens.....startup can easily be changed back.....it still has about 3 flash menus, just has two t-mobile icons for internet and jukebox

I think thats it tbh.....this was quite a few months ago and it was perfectly stable then

Thanks. Can you remember what the jukebox took the place of? PlayNow seems most likely.

If those are the only changes, I don't really see a problem. Can anyone confirm?
