Been on O2 for a little over a week now and yesterday gave the 3G network a try...

I work in the City (London), within the square-mile to be exact, and with the phone set to 2G/3G mode I was always on 2G!?!?!?

When I decided to try it using just 3G mode (while at Waterloo station) it could only muster 1-2 bar at most!!!

I've switched back to 2G only but just wondered whether anyone has experienced O2's 3G network in the City and whether it was any good?!?!

Sitting in the office now, and I have 4 bars of 2G, when I try 3G I have 1 bar 'Emergency Calls' only!!!

Whats that all about?!

Using a G900 by the way, so only no Edge...

Where i live i have very solid 3G on O2 though im not in London im in Bath. But i find whenever i move out of my area its crap everywhere else. Other people i know on Vodafone and Orange get great 3G reception. Its a shame they are still lagging behind the others from the network with one the strongest 2G signals to the worst 3G. I know someone actually on T Mobile and says their 3G reception is better than their 2G. Crazy. I am wondering though if your phone is new could be software or reception fault but i doubt it.

I live in West London but the O2 3G signal is always at peak. I guess the buildings must be affecting the signals at your end while in centre of the city.

I live in West London also... Hounslow to be precise and the 3G signal is again non-existent at home! Also doesnt seem to be decent anywhere on my train journey home from Waterloo... Just wanted to test the performance of the 3G network in comparison to Voda...

Just sticking with 2G now as its fine for Blackbery use and the little wapping I do (use the wireless at home)...

Had Voda at my previous job and used a P1... i'm sure it had a decent 3G signal when I first tried it out... (not 100% as I also had the P1 set to 2G only expect when I initially tested it out)

@aasimtom

I assume you have your avatar as a handset and therefore have Edge and HSPDA... Mate has got a E90 and at the office he has full Edge signal showing, maybe O2 rely on that part of the network...

Annoying though as their coverage map shows full 3G signal here, and I always thought that Edge was considered 2.5G?!?!

I left O2 because up in Warrington, 3G is a complete non starter. Can't get a signal anywhere. 2G is fine, but 3G coverage is pathetic.
Moved to Vodafone and 3G is superb. Full signal most of the time.

No it just means the 3G signal is too weak to provide service. Change it to 2G/3G and you'll get signal again, but 95% of the time it'll be on 2G.

I had the same thing with O2. If you searched for a 3G network and selected it, 3G symbol would appear for a second and then drop back down to 2G.

thats exactly what happens... It appears for a second then goes...

so its definately crap then...

just gonna leave it on 2G so it trying to get a 3G signal doesnt have an effect on battery performance...

Work phone, what can ya do eh...

Live with it..
