Nice interview.

No plans for integrating 3.5mm jack for Walkmans as of yet. Very good, a slap for 3.5mm jack lovers.

Xperia candy bar is coming next year...hmm now that's interesting

Hi all,

Sorry but some of that interview is just so funny and complete and utter SE BS yet again, do they really think we are stupid or what?

I'll give you examples of what i mean and what they say

SE say's

"We split the low-end class into a number of segments. I must admit Sony Ericsson is at the peak of its activity mostly in the top segments, we haven't even got a single monochrome display model in the whole portfolio"

Very true you haven't got a single monochrome display model but then you don't really have many high end solutions either.

As for this

"The same goes to the rest of solutions – we are always offering more features than our competitors do."

Oh please that's just absurd no one in their right mind will believe such rubbish.

Smape asked this very sensible question

"Is it likely that Sony Ericsson phones will eventually get a dedicated audio chip planted inside? The question primarily concerns the Walkman line, of course."

Whislt this SE answer is just so funny

" We generally make use of very powerful CPUs which handle multitasking with especial ease – you can run several application at the same time without losing a notch in the performance rate of each individual running program. That's why we see little reason in making a separate audio chip, nothing of the sort is currently planned. Our exclusive Clear Audio
Experience technology is a huge step forward. It allows to reduce the noises and beef up the basses. The new technology was developed in cooperation with Sony, who possess an all-embracing experience in designing Hi-Fi audio products. At the same time, we are constantly developing service applications like Shake Control or TrackID. The latter also poses certain interest to the carrier companies, offering revenues from the traffic, and finally, Sony benefits from selling the music."

The first part of that answer is a joke very powerful processors and no loss of speed whilst Multitasking, so all those that complain of just this and especially in the A2000 platform phones are just imagining it are they. How ever good Clear Audio tech is it can't compete with a dedicated DSP not in the real world it can't.

Another great question from Smape as it's one many users want to know the answer to.

" As of now, a 3.5 mm standard audio jack is only found in XPERIA X1 and in a limited number of ODM low-end models, is there a chance we will see one in the upcoming Walkman models?

"We have a slightly different approach to this point. We offer our customers a choice. By supplying an adapter in the box, we offer a more flexible solution. You don't have to take the phone out of the pocket while talking using a headset, and the audio quality is preserved intact. Moreover, our new products like W902 will come with a brand new kind of headset which will actually offer the possibility of plugging two pairs of micro earphones into a single jack. This feature has seen some successful use in conventional music player. Currently we don't have any plans for integrating the 3.5 mm jacks in Walkman products."

What choice you have to use an adapter to use your own headphones in a 3.5m plug that's no choice at all total BS.

The rest of the interview i can't be bothered to comment on other than they announced the Xperia range in the spring and they have still to actually launch a device.

Marc

I disagree,
Fast port with the adaptor is a bigger choice than just 3.5 jack, since you can use dedicated SE earph. with answer call ability or use any 3.5mm jack.
Sorry, but this whole 3.5mm jack makes me laugh.

@Dominstry

Just how does that work then? on various Nokia's with a 3.5m adapter built into the phone you get a connector and a supplied headset as well as a 3.5m jack on it and a remote control. Now that gives you a choice of just plugging your headphones in without the remote control or using the remote control and adapter with SE you have NO CHOICE you have to use their adapter to use your headphones. What you don't have the choice of is to connect your headphones directly into the phone and whilst that might not be what you want it seems many SE users do as otherwise this issue wouldn't be raised so often.

Marc,

How on earth is that a problem?

Edited;
Ok, that has to be the most pathetic reason ever, when compared to what the fastport connector brings of added functionality compared to a 3.5 mm jack.

What added functionality? Nokias have a 3.5mm jack AND a mini/Micro USB port. That my friend is functionality!

So you're implying not having a 3.5mm is more functional than having one along with SE's fastport?
