> Sony & Ericsson- Difficult marriage?

A lot of magazines and websites describe the joint venture as a 'difficult' marriage and that Ericsson wants to step out of the venture if things dont pick up. Do you think that Ericsson is better with / without Sony and vice versa?

To me it seems that all SE products have so far revolved around the Ericsson platform and I cannot distinguish any Sony contribution besides the financial one. Yes, the P800 may be a real product of both, but it is a highly specialized phone aimed towards the upper 5 percent of the market and unable to provide sufficient turnover for the ailing venture. I've always admired Sony but they have not lived up to my expectations!

I think that Ericsson will be better without Sony.
Why? When the sony 'alied' with ericsson the SE produce uglier phone than ericsson, look @t68m and t68i. The t68m looks beter than t68i!
Ericsson would it done the p800 beter without sony.

DSF: I agree with you as long as Ericsson is able to self-finance its credible efforts.

Sony is totaly difered that ericsson. Sony has other style, points of view. Sony is an japan brand, Ericsson is an sweden brand.
Ericsson lose money cos he have to share the money with sony..
This is my point of view.

Sony is easily the better company out of the two. Ericsson couldn't produce a phone without a 2 inch aerial before Sony came along. now look at them, T68 has in internal one. I think the style of the phones and the image of Ericsson as a compney has greatly improved, since they have joined forces.

Let us not forget that Ericsson teamed up with Sony because they needed their $$$! Before the venture, Ericsson had often expressed their desire to abandon handset manufacturing which they claimed to be non-profitable! On the other hand, Sony needed a well-established partner as they hadn't been successful with in the GSM market.
