Well.. where to start... My upgrade was due and it's a bold I'm after, so I call Orange and ask nicely for a bold, that's no issue but my tariff, they can no longer do (I was getting 18 month benefits on a 12 month contract), so they best they could offer me was 100 mins and 500 sms on a 12 month contract, all good and well but I use at least 600 mins and about 1000 sms a month, so I say thanks but no thanks that won't do, I'll see what I can get else where, so I call up my mate that works at £ and say Oi what can you do, she soon tells me that she can do me 750 mins and unlimited texts on a 12 month contact for £35 a month but I'll have to pay for a phone, So I get back on the blower to Orange with the new info I have and get offered 600 mins and 1000 sms for £36 a month, not bad I think and tell them I'll get back to them, so I phone back about 4 hours later and say I was offered x and the lady was like I can't find anything about that on your account, what is it you actually need, So I say blah blah blah, She them comes back and tells me I can have 900 mins, 1600 sms and Blackberry for £37.50 a month, which by my reckoning is Panther 50 with an added extra 1000 sms for £35, saving £45 a month on what retail price is for that tariff, and I get my BB Bold for free!

So in short, call about and speak to different people, well on Orange anyway!

900 mins
1600 sms
BB Data
£37.50 a month on a 12 month contract..

Couldn't really turn my nose up at that!

Yes thats very good deal but ya gotta put in some persistance with these people or ya never get what you want. Though i thought the networks were bending over backwards to keep customers and offer existing customers deals as good as new customers.

Saying you're leaving helps, I've now got:

3000 x-net any time minutes
3000 texts

For £30 a month... and no 12 month contract, I simply cancel when ever I want.

That's with o2, no phone given but i've had it for over a year and a half.... can't complain.

Voda*#it$ were happy to let me go back in may after a decade of holding a contract with them and 6 years of another, they just weren't interested in matching deals offered by O2 or T-Mobile, so I left and vowed never to go back, even if they will get the Bold and Touch Pro before my now preferred network O2!

Yeah and its the same in NZ. When I told Vodafone I was quitting my plan because prepay (PAYG) was cheaper, they offered me all sorts of crazy deals to attempt to keep me, but none were as good as switching to prepay so I still turned them down.

In my experience, O2 retentions have always been best.

I have a friend who rang up, threatened to leave, they offered her 75 mins and 125 texts (bottom tariff but she doesn't even use the sim, she has another one!) for I think it was about £6 a month, 12 month contract, she then rang up later on and they added a brand new Moto PEBL U9 to it, just as they'd come out.

Not bad really, about £72 for the year for a phone worth more than that, and an hour and a quarter of calls a month
