Which of these would be the better buy. I need excellent audio quality, looks, built quality, stable firmware etc etc.

Go for 450. n76 is too old and color peel off problem. I think ur capable enough to take a decision.

Both are nice phones. The N76 though has around 42MB RAM on boot up whereas the i450 has 20mb at boot up so the N76 would definetly be the better one in multitasking. N76 also has a slightly better CPU, otherwise the i450 is better in build quality, better battery life, sound quality, better design and its got HSDPA if that matters to you.
I think the best solution would be to get a 5320XM or a SAMSUNG i560. If RAM isn't a concern then go for the i450 its a great phone.

AFAIK i450 uses a TI-omap chip while N76 uses freescale, add to that the fact that freescale CPU has no 3D H/W graphics acceleration by which the TI chip offers so i think i450 has got better performance than the nokia

I'm actually even thinking of a N91 8GB if i can find one. Bar the size, which is subjective, what do you think of that phone?

The i450 has the TI OMAP2431 chip which is missing the Graphics Accelerator. The Freescale CPU actualy has a 3D graphics processor which is only running at 66mhz, check the Freescale I.MX31 CPU PDF.
QVGA
The N91-8GB is an amazing phone. Very well built, looks beautiful IMO and is still the best in Music Quality, But thats about it. You will have some app compatibility issues i think, the N91 only has a 176x220 screen res, around 16MB RAM at boot up which is too little, and a not so great battery life. If you dont mind all that then go for it. But the 5700 would be a better choice IMO since its newer.

n91-8gb is ok. You cannot use its internal memory if you remove the back cover, and its keys are quite difficult to use. Also its speaker volume is low, however, headphone volume is very high. I think n81-8gb is better than n91-8gb, however, i think the transfer rate of n91 8gb was higher than n95 8gb(proly n81 8gb as well).
Also, media player isnt really that good.
n76 is a good phone as well, but delicate.
