Have you tried reinstalling the bluetooth device? Also checking Broadcom website for updated drivers for the device.

I had a similiar problem with my dell untill I installed the Toshiba Bluetooth stack (it uses a toshiba bt module). The native windows dirvers didn't support all functions.
But even without the toshiba stack, it still supported all the profiles that windows supports (even though device manager had an unknown bt device with no drivers installed).
If you are using the windows BT stack, install the BT software for your BT dongle or upgrade it from the manufacturers website.

Broadcomm lost the compatibility since SP2 for Windows XP was out... BlueSoleil seems to be great option (as a replacement for widcomm) too... It works on vista, tested with bluetooth PAN using P1 and noname BT usb adapter.
