it *is* a g900.
I decided to update the firmware via SEUS as I was hoping it'd help lessen the lag, among other things and I managed to complete that fine.
Upon completion I noticed that I couldn't open MiniOpera anymore, well, I couldn't connect to the internet via the wifi that it had been using up until the update.
It was an unlocked phone before iirc, so my brief question would be:
would the updating rebrand my phone, thus causing MiniOpera to not work anymore? (I've googled a little bit for reasons as to why it might not, and this is one of them).

another humble question; is it at all possible to get the firmware that I originally had, whatever it was? Or at least one that isn't chained to like a dog to Rogers? >_

I'm guessing that you changed the CDA of your phone to debrand it in the first place, there is therefore no danger of it being rebranded via update. You can tell if your phone is branded or not by the startup screen - if it shows the name of an operator (O2/voda/whoever), then it's branded, if you get SE's logo, it's not.
Updating the firmware wipes all user installed applications and data from the phone memory, thus you'll need to reinstall opera mini, and reset your wifi connection settings.
