For example, will a Samsung U700 pair and work with a DS970? Or can there be problems too?

it is hard to say because A2DP is still relatively new, however as for my own experience I've been able to connect atleast 2 SE's to my Bluetooth Car Stereo, in headset and A2DP mode, without issues.

BT Headset/Handset compatibility issues probably aren't as widespread as they used to be. I have a feeling A2DP is more sturdy than the normal headset profile.

If you get a chance to try before you buy then you can make sure, otherwise you just have to take a punt.

as adsannani says, titling and avrcp may not work as well with non-SE handsets.

SE HBH-DS200 doesn't work at all with a Nokia E90 so I'm giving this headset to my daughter to use with her new Sony MP3 player.

Well i recently bought samsung i450 and its A2DP enabled. My hbh-ds970 has a problem with it. whenever during a song, there's a higher frequency sound, the sound kind of breaks down, like the headphones cant dandle it. Its best described as "shrilling" kind of sound. Nothing like this happens with a wired headset though
