Apple has unveiled the latest version of its iPod Nano, featuring what it says are the thinnest measurements yet.

The fourth generation Nano was launched at a US press conference by Apple chief Steve Jobs, who announced new shuffle and library features.

He also listed the Nano's environmental credentials, including arsenic-free glass and a mercury and PVC-free body that is "highly recyclable".

The Nanos are expected to sell in the UK for £109 ($191) for the 8GB version.

The 16GB version will retail at £149.

Ya i saw this on the apple website today, whole new ipod family out to be fair, new nano, new touch and new classic.

I also like how apple have gone back to the 2nd generation nano design, i never liked the "obese" 3rd generation nano look

I can see myself having a bright yellow one to be honest.

Kinda weird updates for the Classic and Touch though. The touch got a new case but not really any real upgrades oddly, and the Classic became only one model and only one (smaller) capacity. What's going on there?

They're going to completely throw HDD out the window as far as I know.
Soon-ish too.
As soon as flash memory becomes cheap, then the Classic won't be needed anymore.

EDIT: Hugely stupid typo.

It's going to be a little while yet till they make anything as big as 120GB in flash form...

It sounds cliché, but things are moving on so fast I wouldn't be surprised if 128GB of cheap-ish flash memory came about by the next iPod update.

You can hold me to this.

they have to hit the 32GB barrier - when they do they'll have to decide what file system to use and update the memory architecture (for both SDHC and MS).

Probably when that happens there will be a fair lack of backwards compatibility too - ie: our 8,16 and 32GB memcards may become completely useless in many devices made to support greater than 32GB memory.
