No , there is no way to play AVI files in your phone.
Only .3gp and .mp4 format video files are supported in SE

It cant play AVI IN JAVA bcoz the phone doesn't have the codec for AVI.
Java players only support media format that have their codecs in the phone.

It can play wmv? For some reason my c902 couldn't play wmv. i had to convert it into mp4 for it to work.

Try to rename the file from avi to 3gp. This may work on your phone. Use a mobiexplorer or operamini mod to rename the file.

In most cases won't work... It still requires the same codec for avi playback... The extension change doesn't mean too much in media files.. Maybe the extension will be different, but the codec for playback will still be required. Anyway, you can try converting videos in mp4 format using some good video converter. I use ImTOO for e.g. Not a free software, but great for converting videos for my P1.
