Thought you guys might be interested in the correspondence between yours truly and Sony Ericsson. BTW, battery life still sucks:
"Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Customer Care Center.
The standby time is unique for each phone and is calculated from the
following settings:
- Power needed to communicate with the GSM network
- Light set to on / off
- Bluetooth on / off
- IrDA (Infrared) on / off
- If you are moving the phone needs to update the status in the
network.
- Magic Word on / off
Not using Light set to On, Bluetooth set to On, IrDA and the Magic Word
will mean that you get a longer standby time.
The standby statement is applicable also on talktime performance.
1). BATTERY IS NOT FULLY CHARGED: The phones needs to be charged 3-4
hours with the charger included in the kit, even if the battery indicator
indicates full.
2). PHONE SETTINGS: Background light should be: OFF/-or Automatic
(decrease standby time up to 90%), Screensaver should be: OFF mode (decrease
standby time up to 35%) and Display sleep should be: OFF (decrease
standby time up to 5%).
3). OTHERS: As for all GSM phones the standby time decrease a lot when
you have: bad GSM coverage, talktime (e.g., 1 minute talktime = reduce
the standby time with 10 hours).
2) is under investigation.
3) How you are trying to transfer those mpeg-4 files: via
IrDA?Bloutooth? Cable: USB desk top or RS232?
Video Player
You can download video clips from the Internet or copy over from a
connected PC or from Memory Stick. Video films are large compared to still
images and the demonstration films shown on the P800 require
approximately 1 Mbyte storage per minute.
Files must be .mp4 and have video coded in MPEG-4 Simple Visual
Profile.
You can send video clips to other phones or PCs, via infrared
communication, Bluetooth wireless technology and multimedia messaging.
Video files can be stored on the P800, organised in folders. Tapping a
filename will start playback
Streaming
You do not have to download the video clips to view them. The Video
Player can be launched from hyperlinks in the Browser or in messages. The
video clip is played with only a short time delay.
Content is streamed using RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) session
control according to 3GPP specification.
Best regards,
/Hoda

Question:
Subject: P800
Product: P800
Opinion: The following problems:
(1) Battery life is very poor, 1 day maximum with minimal phone calls
and use of the device.
(2) I have trouble communicating via Bluetooth between my notebook PC,
IBM A31P with bluetooth ultraport module and the P800. I get the
message:
Service: File transfer is not found on device P800.
The P800 is paired with the IBM and both devices show each other as "in
the neighborhood. No such problems with my T68i.
(3) The P800 does not recognize mpeg-4 videos I attempt to transfer to
it, "no suitable viewer found" message.
Also, too bad Sony Ericsson didn't install fax capability, seems I have
to continue carrying my Nokia Communicator just for faxes!
Thanks.
