My P1i is now 6 months or more old. Suddenly since last week, it cannot charge from the stand that came with the P1, the standalone charger too cannot charge the phone although the USB cable can charge the phone from my Laptop.

At the same time, the RED LIGHT ( the one that is supposed to come on when the battery is low) at the charging point on the phone just does not go out even after the battery shows that it is fully charged.

Is the battery at fault or my phone needs a visit to the service station?

Check your charging point on phone bottom (the gold strips) to see if there are any deposits on them

if there are ,try cleaning them with a ear swab gently. You can even use a pointed eraser.

If it doesnt make a difference ,you might try the service centre

My guess is the problem is either with the battery or with the contact points.

I agree with you. The problem might be in the fastport connector. You can try cleaning but don't use sharp stuff on it.

Tks.

But if the fast port is the culprit, how come the USB cable works correctly - it charges and trasnfer files when connected to a pc/laptop?

Could be certain portions of the fastport have dust on them.
Id say try different stuff until the problem is solved. The sooner you act, the faster it will be solved

Hmm, mine does this sometimes - if unplugging/plugging in again doesn't work I just turn the phone off and on again, seems to cure it.
