> w950i space key bug
Bookmark topic
I just recently bought a second hand w950i phone but I have no idea if it is locked to a telecom service provider or not. Neither do I know if it is a export set or not. I could still use it now though.
However, the w950i seems to have a problem with the sms space key. I have to tap the screen once for every single word I type before I could press the space key to leave space for the next word. After much research, I found out that there is this space key bug for the firmware on my w950i.
And the problem now is I have no idea if my phone is an export set or not. I am worry that updating the firmware from the SE site, I may brick the phone.
Is there any way to identify if the phone is an exported set or not?
Otherwise, is there a way to fix this problem without taking too much risk of getting the phone bricked?
Thanks.

this was a bug in an early firmware for the P990/W950/M600 and we had many topics discussing this (e.g.
here)
a later firmware update fixed the problem so you just need to update your phone firmware so don't be afraid to do that as you will not brick your phone

Hi,
Thanks so much for replying. I have updated my phone using the Sony Ericsson's Service Update software.
The phone is still working and doesn't look like bricked. So that was a relieve.
But the space key problem is still there. I am not referring to the on screen keyboard, but the normal keypad space key, which is the '#' key used to enter a space in messages. The other series of SE phones could just leave a space by pressing the # key after typing a word. But on my W950i, I need to tap the screen once after typing a word before I could press the # key to leave space in the message.
My phone version is now CXC162037 R9G007.

Versex,
That's weird and definately something wrong with your phone and not something which W950s do. My W950i (CXC 162037 R9GA001) doesn't behave like that.

I have seen my friends using the R9G001 firmware and have no problem too. Heard that it could be because the R9G007 has another language support that causes this.
I think my the firmware for my phone's CDA is R9G007. If I try to install another firmware(that is not meant for my phone's CDA) by flashing the phone using some softwares like XS++ to install the R9G001 firmware, would my phone get bricked?
