> What's bricking the phone?

I am quite new to mod phones. I am confused with what it means when bricking your phone. What is it like when a phone is bricked?
Say if you have an export set, which means a phone that is not meant for your local country usage, and you update the phone through the Sony Ericsson Update Service, would it 'brick' your phone?
And then if you have a local set, and you try to flash the phone to another version, would it 'brick' your phone too?
What else could brick a phone?

bricking is when you somehow change the firmware and the phone will no longer function correctly
however, you can forget this export confusion you have. You can buy an SE from anywhere in the world and update it in your own country using SEUS without fear. I often buy mine from Hong Kong, for example.

bricked my k610 today. Works again after a reflash
btw that was using se tool lite. Just remember, always backup your GDFS

Well yeah, bricking is when you damage the phone's EROM or other part of the firmware when the phone doesn't get recognized by the PC at all.
The only way of reparing it is using service cable (cruiser for e.g.) which has an external battery power supply. That kind of service cables can repair bricked phones (only if the flash chip isn't damaged)...

There is always a (little) chance to brick your phone, even via SEUS.
You should backup your GDFS (also via XS++) first.
Besides, XS++ only changes the CDA.
You have to reflash your phone via SEUS afterwards in order to get the firmware for your new CDA version.
By the way, when we talk about firmware & cda versions (localizations) we refer to the following:
Standby > More > Status:
Firmware version: last string of 'Organiser' (Rxxxx)
CDA version: first string of 'CDA' (CDA 162xxx/xx)
