Good news if you like to look purely on market share.

Nokia's report also claimed it have 2% decrease in market share.

now I wonder is Samsung/ Motorola being the winner or it includes SonyEricsson

Oct. 20, 2008

Mobile Communications Company posted sales of KRW 3.815 trillion (USD 3.589 billion), 29.9% up from the second quarter 2008. From handset business, the sales reached KRW 3.514 trillion (USD 3.306 billion), 40.8% up from a year earlier. Shipment of handsets recorded 23.0 million, 5% growth YoY but declined 17% from the second-quarter, due to slow sales in India and emerging markets. However, operating profit margin in handset division remained at double digit at 11.5% due to growth in high-end models such as “Secret”, “Viewty” and variety of QWERTY messaging phones in the U.S.
Shipment in the fourth-quarter expected to grow and achieve 100 million units annual goal, and double digit profitability is expected to be sustained. “Renoir”, 8-mega pixel camera phone, and the second version of the “PRADA phone by LG” and “Cookie”, a mid-tier full-touch phone will be unveiled in the coming quarter.

SE reported a loss. Has to be samsung. They're really upping the ante

There's only one manufacturer that is capable of eating into Nokia's market share and that is unquestionably Samsung. At the moment they are the "in form" manufacturer.

I believe we are going to see another drop from Motorola. They haven't come up with anything and their distribution and marketing is dead.

If we are talking market share I believe SE has most proably maintained their part compared to Q2 (they reported loss of 1% compared to Q3 last year, which gives an estimate of 8% for Q3 this year).

Samsung, SE and Moto all expected to increase market share.

Nokia and LG lost market share, LG because of its shrinking CDMA market share and Nokia apparently because of delayed handsets and falling demand in W Europe.

Are you certain about Motorola? I have serious doubts about them.

Yes, according to the Taiwanese OEMs, who manufacture a lot of the handsets we use.

I don't think Moto will disappear altogether, they can only fall so far and they are bound to make a comeback eventually. They have lost quite a bit, however, I wouldn't completely write them off.

Thanks for the link. The situation at Motorola is precisely similar to Ericsson's (of course, with different sets of problems) and they look to be in a threatened position. This also makes me think of Siemens.

I have this feeling that they (Motorola) may end up being an American orientated manufacturer because they really aren't keeping up with the competition worldwide. I mean, their leading position in emerging markets is busy eroding and they are strongest at home in the US.

It's a pity really as I absolutely love my V8 with its amazing build quality and unsurpassed call quality.

But even in Motos own home market the competition from RIM and Apple is stiff (at least in more expensive devices).

Absolutely correct Arne Anka! ...and then you also provided their solution- concentrate more on the cheap solutions while occassionally throwing one or two quality and feature filled competitive products. Their support base in their home country is still solid and they need to capitalise on that unlike worldwide where we are less forgiving.
