> 0845 & 0800 number question

I have a question regarding these types of numbers. When i had an O2 contract back in 2004 these types of numbers were included in your allowance. O2 used to be the only network not to charge for these except for Orange with 0800 numbers. Are they still included in free mins allowance these days or not. Reason i ask is i heard on local radio today that companies are being forced to drop using the 0845 & 0844 numbers and start using the introduced 03 numbers. Alot of companies apparently are not willing to do this as they not make as much profit.

0845 numbers aren't part of the inclusive minute's on my O2 tariff which i've had for over 6 years now. 0800 numbers won't work either unless you omit the first 0 which makes it start as 800 and is also chargeable.

Yes, your right in saying O2 used to be the only network to offer this, but unfortunately about a year ago (and quite publicly too, too our existing customers), we had to remove that, so all 08 numbers now cost. Not alot mind, but they will cost.

03 numbers are free to dial on the O2 network. They come off your free mins. It was an ofcom rulling that asked companies to start using 03 numbers. But not many are doing so.

Ok so thats clears that one up then. Dont think any network includes them now then. Wonder if Orange still not charging for freephone numbers. I used to use Telephone banking alot and it was nice with O2 back then cos it came out your mins.

Don't worry about your network not including 0870/0845 numbers in your inclusive minutes.
Just use a website to search for the geographical alternative number and you can use services like telephone banking at no extra charge.
Just search for 0845 in a search engine and it'll bring up one of these websites.

Yeah, but it doesn't always work, alot of companies have those numbers as outgoing only, so they don't receive calls from them, or they go through to the internal switch board and you end up speaking to either the wrong person, or they think you're an employee

Once again, you've missed the point entirely...
Up until we removed it, O2 were the ONLY network providing them free, so us getting rid of it isn't something to start blaming O2 for, it's a case of we hung on until the last minute.
BT will charge for the use of non-geographical landlines, including 0800 numbers. They can provide them free because hell, they own the line. O2 don't, so we have to pay a sur-charge.
