> K850i.Now is it safe to buy?

Last month i bought a samsung u900( nice phone btw)...didnt buy k850i cuz of reliability horror stories
But to be honest the phone i really wanted was the k850i. As gud as the u900 is i'm still obessed with the k850i( it looks sooo cool)
Long story short i'm thinking of changing phones....a month after upgrading to a great phone( that's how badly i like the k850i)
I've been scouring the forums for the last( you guessed it) month but i havn't found too many recent threads abt the k850i's current state of reliability....
I mean it seems as though 90% of owners have problems...SE makes me sad for making such a desirable phone bt making it unreliable
Say i buy a new phone and have it immediately updated to r1fa035...good idea? Or leave it on watever it came with....if it aint broke dnt fix it?
Can you fix BROD wif SEUS? Since i heard it flashes the entire phone now, and can it be done as many times as i require ie. "update" the phone even if its latest firmware....btw nt willing to davinci( no credit card...not willing to pay to keep a phone functioning)
I really want this phone....especially cuz of xenon( n82 too pricy)...I can live with small bugs but not a phone that kills itself for no apparent reason i need to know if it's worth my time...(nt too eager on k800i, price drops in NZ have made it el' cheapo and every1 has one....) thanks in advance

I can honestly tell you the K850i is a good phone with the latest firmware, I'm a happy (not 100 percent satisfied tho) owner.
You should update it if you get it to the newest FW, check out the picture-thread of the k850, it takes amazing fotos!
I only had problems in the beginning of it, with the old firmware; lot of bugs, everything was slow!
I dont have any bugs now and its quite fast to be honest.

I will first let you know about my experience with this phone, which I still own. I bought it in April, that makes 6+ months of daily use. It had R1DA firmware when bought, I updated it to R1FA one week after it was released. Never had BROD, reboots were occasional and I never had hardware problems. The touch keys still work flawlessly and there's no dust under my camera lens cover. The phone is manufactured in December 2007. I use a 4 GB microSDHC memory card to store music, photos and videos.
I have been a constant reader of Esato board, so I am aware of all the problems ever occurred with this model. IF you decide to buy it, I strongly advise you to update it to R1FA035 if the firmware is an earlier version. It's generally agreed that it's the fastest and the most stable FW released. You will still get pinkish red in photos, and the phone will still reboot if you're too demanding. I got used to rebooting it intentionally once every few days (power off and remove the battery for 10 seconds, put it back and then power on) or whenever it seemed sluggish. Buy yourself a belt-mounted leather case or something similar, just don't wear the phone in your pocket. You will protect the extremely sensitive touch keys and you will keep the dust away from the phone.
I read the past days that the phone is still in production and it comes with the latest firmware. In the unfortunate event of BROD, SEUS does repair it by completely re-flashing the phone, so you won't have to pay to bring it back to life. Anyway, make sure you get AT LEAST one year warranty from your retailer. This phone still has some surprises for us, better be prepared. Use MyPhoneExplorer to backup all your data, it's the best piece of software ever created for the Sony Ericsson phones. Backup your memory card's content too, using a card reader rather than Bluetooth or even data cable if your card is larger than 512 MB (takes a whole lot less time). I've lost the content of my memory card once, but it was my PC's fault, not the phone's. That's why I advise you to back it up too, not just the phone.
God, I hope you are lucky and grab a good phone so I won't feel sorry for encouraging you to buy it. And don't worry: it's not true that 90% of K850i users have troubles with it. It's rather the other way around: 90% actually
don't have any trouble. But the unlucky 10% write here on Esato, and 10% is a HUGE percentage anyway. K850i is Sony Ericsson's biggest failure so far, and I feel somehow betrayed because, one year after it's release, the phone still has issues and SE turns a deaf ear at us.

well it is the acronym from Blue Ring Of Death the most notorious issue with K850i owners. A BROD-victim K850i' screen doesn't turn on when u power on the phone. Keypad lights and the Blue Camera ring light remain lighting. BROD happens due to some kinda software files corruption And the only solution is to reflash the phone via SEUS or with some 3rd party software. And a broded K850i looses everything sms,email/app installed..etc etc..

I'm using this phone since Jan 2008 and it has been very much improved with the latest firmware and i'm quite happy with my K850i.
Buy it & you'll love this phone...

I bought a K850 2 months ago for a third time (first: Velvet Blue, second: Luminous GReen).
Only once restart, never got BROD.

K850i is a great phone, much of us (users) are very happy wit it even with its little bugs.
I agree the latest firmware is very stable and fast.
Here on Esato are some haters of this phone (much of then even have/had one)
but dont worry, jus make sure it has warranty and enjoy it
(sorry for my english)
