It was better tell him that you want to link his tut's here or try to copy and paste the text from his tut's and add the screenshot from your own but still you have to tell him about copying his tut's to help someone.
I don't really understand about this "copyscape" or whatever it was (i forgot the exact name) but whenever the page or some part are copied, the page author can track it down.
What a technology, btw I'm sure he will give the permission, he is a good guy just like you yea g . . .
