Sony Ericsson unseated Motorola Inc. as the third-largest cell phone manufacturer, with 8.6 percent share of the market. Motorola had 8.5 percent.

Sony Ericsson also leapfrogged LG Electronics Inc., pushing it down to No. 5 slot.

Nokia Corp. remained the top cell phone maker, with 39.4 percent share, according to IDC. (Nokia's own figure is 38 percent.) It is followed by Samsung Electronics Co., with 17.3 percent by IDC's count.

@rraz9228

That's not sales that is shipped units which are two very different things as more SE units remain unsold and SE are unfortunately still 5th.

This has also been discussed in a couple of threads already here on Esato and elsewhere on the Web.

The more I look into the mobile-review.com thread the more I think we shouldn't jump into conclusion SE stuck on P5. The discussion there if what I glance thru is correct is referring SE not able to put up a good sale thru in term of unit tht ends up on consumer hand....but as far as I know. Such figure will only come out with Gartner or some big research firm get data from big distributor like carphonewarehouse etc.

I used to remember a long time back....like 2 to 3yrs ago with BenqSiemens still around, Mobile-review will have such data report which reflect the real situation.

I just seem to see the statement SE stick at P5 is relating to their sales figure. That is tough to refer to, money figure have to do with the selling price of the phone.. not related to unit tht finally ends up on consumer hand....plus what a manufacturer normally care should be the figure that they ship out from their logictic centre to distributor.

so I don't want to claim SE is P5 since I will say Sorry if the last thread is miss leading by me but I rather say we wait before we claim either SE is P3 or P5 in the market share position.

even if it is P3....25.7million shipped (SE) vs 25.4million shipped (Moto) is so slim that no one will cares.

I think more interest will now be on Android G1 vs iPHONE 3G vs RIM Storm/ Bold....plus later Nokia 5800....

In terms of units sold this quarter, SE is third. Here are complete details of the unit sold market share for the third quarter. These figures represent what each manufacturers sold to their customers including : operators, distributors, end customers.

One important thing to note is that Apple and Blackberry is now starting to get some traction in terms of volumes as well.

btw chinese like to say this being Ah Q...but I will try to be Ah Q now .

in GSM world....I do believe SE is at world number 3 since it don't really have a big volume in CDMA (only for KDDI) ....motorola and LG shipment include CDMA.

but if a company continue to lost money with high volume ship out from their factory...it is not healthy.

I think those are figure showing by each manufacturer shipment they made.

i guess many have been claiming SE might not be having a high market share if one look into unit sold to consumer.

That I guess need to wait...I remember there's one survey company gathering such report but as far as I know...that report comes later.

That's weird and not an encouraging news actually. Does this mean SE will keep playing it safe knowing that minimal effort pays?

according to mobilmania it's based on the number of units sold, not shipped. LG sold less then se- but look at it's profits-up by 41%.
