That is crap service from CPW, I've checked the UK consumer laws and they state that as long as the product is not faulty or mis-described they can deny a refund.
One more reason to buy things online (after checking them out in person) is that you have a cooling down period of 7 days after receiving the product. Its an EU law and allows you send/bring back the item for a full refund without any reasons what so ever.
I guess the above is not helpful for you now, but next time, if a shop has a website you can order from, order online, it gives you more rights than when you it in the shop. This also works for ordering via telehpone, any sales at a distance are covered. See this website for more information:

Thanks for the advice, they did say that i could get an exchange but there isnt another phone i like. Will see what kind of response i get from here before i decide what to do.
