Right here goes.............
I have a 8GB file on my laptop which runs Windows XP. I need to transfer the file to my desktop PC which runs Vista which is downstairs. The file is a ISO.
I only have a 4GB memory stick so cant transfer like that. I have no dual layer discs so cannot burn to disc.
Im just abit stuck on how I can tranfer the file. The laptop works on wireless and the desktop plugged in to the same modem via ethernet. Please any help would be good. I have read help about setting up a network connection between the two but the Vista PC never seems to see my shared file (im obviously doing something wrong)
Many Thanks
James

Find a really busy Argos, it's nearly Christmas, so finding one is going to be less and less difficult as each day goes by. Buy the cheapest HDD you can find, use it, and return. If there's a big queue at customer services, they're not going to look at it twice. That's what I did last year, easy enough.
Argos's free hardware rental service.

I wondered whether there was a method I could use tonight?
I do love the free argos rental service idea though.

try the following:
Find the IP address of the other pc
Go back to your pc
goto start/run
type //ip address/c$ (typing the ip address not the word)
This may work

Tonight?
Can you not just transfer the file over your home network?
Might take a while, but it'll get there soon enough.

connect a lan cable between them (you can get 30 or 50m ones)
and transfer the file(s)
you should be able to transfer it over your wifi (afaik)

simple enough.
on the xp machine, go to start> control panel > home network setup. run that though, and if possible choose the same workgroup as the vista pc (its default is WORKGROUP). then on the vista machine click on start> network, and hopefully it should find the xp pc. then just load up its shared documents, and put the iso in there.
