Please share what music format and bitrate do you use on your phone?

I am using mp3 with various bitrates but i plan to convert some of the music for my w950.

Thanks!

Well, I use mp3 almost exclusively and with a bitrate no lower than 192kb/s.

thank you, but i need to get the optimal combination of low diskspace usage and quality, i have 400 songs that would permanently stay on my phone, so i need to convert them.

thanks!

256kbps of mp3 is good if you have the space but if you got more space then i recommend 320kbps...

Hi all,

Using low bit rates really is a false economy as whilst you may be able to get more Music on your memory card it will at the price of quality. Lower bit rates quite simply mean more information is stripped out of the original track and your device has less information to re produce it from this really is not good for a quality listening experience IMO and that of many others.

Especially as large memory cards are really not that expensive anymore i prefer to maybe carry less but have it in a very good quality. Listening to poor quality Music really is a waste of time and you may as well not bother as it is not a good experience.

Personally all my Music is converted from CD's to 256kbps AAC and i use Shure EC2g ear phones my current device is a BB Bold and it produces a really great sound as good if not better than my now sold iPod 5.5 Gen.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

I use w950i and as you know it has built-in 4gb memory, but the sound quality of the earphones of the SE are really really poor so I should consider buying new ones, and as far as i have tested mp3 with 320 bittrate does not differ from wma @ 128 on the stoch headphones.

Get a new pair of earphones/headphones. My $10 Koss clip-ons sound better than the bundled set of phones.
As Marc said, it's a question of quality vs quantity. I haven't stored any songs in AAC (partially because my entire collection is in 320kbps MP3) but AFAIK, 192kbps is the bare minimum rate for MP3s for an acceptable listening experience. You can't really tell the difference between 192kbps and 320kbps unless you have a wax-free pair of ears or happen to be using a very good set of earphones (Shures, AKGs, Sennheisers etc.). But it wouldn't take a music lover to tell the difference between 128kbps and 192kbps.

Over 90% of the songs on my P1i are encoded in either 192kbps or 320kbps.

@dngeorgiev

Really the first thing to do with any device is dump the supplied headphones as in general they are adequate at best. The better the ear/headphones are the better your Music will sound this makes the most difference IMO along with using higher bit rates and is a worth while investment as a good set should last you many years. Hunt around and you will be surprised at how inexpensive some great ear/headphones are.

I always use the latest MP3 LAME (now v3.98.2) to compress my music files into CBR 96Kbps (160kbps at times). Either it is for my mp3 player or my phone. It is the best settings for quality/size. I don't compress into VBR because it drains the battery.
