This happens all the time between various networks, wether your on O2, Orange or anyone.
Give it till the following day or two and it wont happen again for months or years, it's a rare occurence, and noone knows why.

This happens between my O2 number alot and texting my brothers who are both on Orange. Texts and MMS take ages sometimes between these two networks either way. I think its bad to be honest when you think the networks are supposed to have HUGE capacity you would think they could manage to send a poxy tiny text. Sometimes i send a text to my brother then when i see him i say DID YOU GET MY TEXT and he will say NO. Poor really.

It is really, the problem being the networks launched 3G internet and mobile broadband all too fast and the networks infrastructure can't cope, all due to pressure from each network to the others to start selling it caused everyone to start offering more than they could cope with.
As a result, the networks are under strain. It's simply a bigger headache than what they started with :/

I used to have this problem alot over a year ago on Orange. One of the reasons i left cos everything was getting bad with them. Though my brothers say its improved now i used to get calls going to voice mail in good coverage areas and not recieving voice mail notification. I do find voice mail and calls generally better with O2. Though i had problems on 3G recently with O2 on GSM i never have ever had one dropped call on O2 in the year and a half i been with them except on 3G.

This is a fault on both networks O2 and Orange have had faults today in relation to SMS. Both networks are aware of this and should be resolved as soon as possible.

Well i hope so cos i was texting my brother only 1 hour ago and he said all my messages were jumbled. He was getting the second half of the message first.

I have one friend on Vodafone and between Vodafone and O2(my number) there is never a problem. Perhaps its cos they are on same frequency. Dont know. Also i find Voda and O2 have faster voicemail notification than Orange for instance. Sometimes i wonder is there any network thats reliable out there. It used to be Orange the most robust network many years back. Not now. Sometimes i think O2 aint really that bad except 3G LOL

But seriously text messages should never be a problem when they take up such small capacity despite billions being sent every day.
