Hey peeps,

I've a W910i, was locked to Orange, and I got it unlocked at little "mobile repairs" corner shop no problem. I'd like to update firmware to rebrand it, and I bought DaVinci credits to do this.

However, a guy on another forum reckons that if the phone has been unlocked by "softpatch", then updating the firmware will lose that patch, and it'll be locked again.

Fact or Fiction? And any way I can tell if it was "softpatched"?

Thanks.

If it's unlocked by patch and you flash it, it will be locked again!!

BUT, if you have unlocked it with a software service (as Davinci or SETool) or a service cable, doesn't matter if you put a new firmware, it will stayed unlocked!!

Most probably is that your W910 it's unlocked by the second method, as I don't have knowledge that an DB3150 phone can be unlocked by patch. Hope it helps you

Thanks Alex.... is thee any way I can tell how it was unlocked, or does anyone else know if these can be unlocked by patch? I'd rather live with the firmware than spend another 40 quid getting it unlocked again!

Nice phone, apart from all that

Never had a phone unlocked by a patch, so dunno how you can see, whether is has been unlocked this way, but fact is, an update will remove this patch and the phone will be locked again.
Normally unlockers warn you, not to update a phone, when they've unlocked it by software patching.

OK ..... so, *IF* it's been updated by patch, and I update it, and it locks again, what will it become locked to - Orange (as it was when I bought it, before unlock), or Vodafone (which is what I want to update it to)?

@marly: it will look as if it was unlocked normally.

@jl: if your phone was unlocked by patched and you flash the MAIN you will have your phone locked as before. If it was locked to orange before, it will get locked to orange once again.

There is no patch unlocking available for DB3150 phones yet. So nothing to worry about the patch unlocking part.
If the patch unlocking is out , most of the Local Shops will do it by that method.

The Sim Lock status will still show the pad locked closed, if the phone was patch unlocked.
