It disables the RUU signature check of your original SPL and enables you to flash any ROM you like.
For further info you may check xda-dev.

its a program that allows you to flash the firmware of HTC phones, especially useful if you have a branded phone at the moment. wont be too usefull to others until people start putting together custom ROMs.

Once installed HardSPL... and installed GENERIC ROM...
Would you be able to use the SEUS service... or would that turn it back to BRANDED ROM???
Cheers

until we get our first update via SEUS, it'll be hard to know what checks they have put in place... IMEI etc? so I think we'll have to wait and see on that one (whose gonna be first?
)
still, even if it does... you just debrand again. its costs nothing to do after all

Given that SEUS should be using the info in your SPL to recognize the type and version of your device, three things could happen imo:
Either it would still be able to read it and recognize your device, but unable to flash or it could do both (recognize + flash), but don't ask me if you could use your device afterwards
Or it wouldn't recognize your device at all..
I'm not sure..

So using HardSPL... would mean sticking with that way to do the updates then... would be a better option...???
I have an O2 version of the X1... I can get rid of the o2 panel not a huge cocern... just trying to way up if a GENERIC version is the better way or not... that all...
Thanks for the help

No, it doesn't mean that.
Once they have developed a separate SSPL for X1 you can extract the original SPL from your original ROM and flash it back.
So it'll be reversible.

So does that I could put a GENERIC SSPL on the handset...??? If and when this is available or would I have to put back the O2 one...
Sorry with questions... just trying to get my head around all this... 1st WM device...
Cheers
