Hi all,
Now please don't get the wrong idea about this thread it is not about bashing the X1 it is about trying to understand it though.
Now i know most of these tweaks are quite simple and in fact due to the hard work of some they have even been combined into one package.
But my question is this why does the X1 need these in the first place when very similar devices like the Touch Pro or Touch HD don't. Both of those still have a need to be tweaked to perform better but they don't seem to need tweaks to address the same issues as the X1 has.
What i am talking about is the Tweaks and fixes like the ones below not the tweaks adding additional functionality such as Touch Flo 3D or additional keyboards or panles.
Bluetooth turning off with MortScript
Xperia Tweak not all of it but some of it.
Data connection/auto disconnect tweak.
As all three devices are running WM6.1 and have very similar hardware and this is why i can't really understand why some of these problems are only on the X1. Anyone have a good explanation of why?
Marc

Maybe cuz this is the first Sony Win Mobile phone.. I hope, this is the last one with windows too.
Hate that Microsoft crap..
Symbian UIQ is dead, so i guess that's why X1 went with Win, but i hope soon Sony will show new Symbian Aliance or whatever device.
Maybe Android OS would be even better.

...or even Windows Mobile 7.
I have no major issues with my X1i. My issues are largely with Windows Mobile itself or individual software. Also, TouchFlo and Panels are two different beasts with their own idiosyncrasies. So I wouldn't compare the two so directly.
Tweaks don't necessarily mean deficiencies, but merely differences in individuals' preferences.
I think a lot of the "deficiencies" of the X1 can be chalked up to
rushing to get it on the market in time. There were a lot of things taken out of the feature list like: PlayNow, DLNA,
active panels and etc (I'm sure there's a lot more). Now 15fps h.264 encoding is supposedly not supported.
just wasn't finished with the thing, so they said, "just release it with what we've got finished so far."
Heck, they even promoted the hell out of the panels, yet, there is/was no decent selection of panels when X1 was released (I was expecting more choice for a start...BIG letdown).
I will be happy if I get:
*ALL the features promised from
*a respectable selection of eye-candyish/finger-friendly panels.
*WM7 or 6.5 gives a better user experience than 6.1 and it's sluggishness.
I think the tweaking being done is largely due to X1 not being fine-tuned and polished before it hit the market. This is fixable with software updates, so all is not lost
This put's us in the same league as any other "x.0" smartphone.

Like I mentioned sometime ago, WM is a very "hands on" OS, very configurable. I quite like the fact that tweaks give you that little bit more.

Tweakability is great, but, it should always be an option and not a requirement...especially in the iPhone era.
I don't want to spend more time tweaking than using.
@aksd:
Haven't seen you in a while. I thought you were either in jail, tired of us, pregnant or D-All of the above

@Max
I seem to remember big arguments when some suggested that SE don't always deliver what they say even in White Papers and then go back and edit it all away like it never existed. Looks like some of those that were berated for blasphemy may of been talking the truth after all, as yet once more history and bad behavior repeats itself. It could also be argued that they haven't delivered anything like what they said they would with the 9 active panels either especially as currently they are all static images and just shortcuts to the actual apps which isn't even close to what they said they would be now is it?.

@Dogmann:
I'm hoping
is still hard at work finishing the X1's software. If they don't, it's still a good device. It's just short of my expectations as of now.

maybe but I'm quite sure I wasn't in those arguments. I know I've stuck up for SE often in big heated arguments but it's never been my impression that SE ALWAYS stick to their promises or whitepapers. tbh I don't know any OEM who does.
I agree that the active panels things was a backtract, but I'm also not surprised since I always thought it a bit optomistic of SE to think that the WM platform hardware as it is currently was anywhere near capable of running active content like this. I never even run active content on the today screen for this very reason - it sucks juice hard and sloows down the device. I'm not a fan of active content in standby. Maybe in a year or two general winmo hardware will be fast enough.
DLNA is a disappointment, but it doesn't make me hate SE. I mean they have a job to do who am I to question what's possible and not within the constraints of their budgets and timetables. I can be disappointed about it without having to go on a crusade. Sometimes we don't get what we want in life, that's all their is to it
As to the connectivity issues and such like, I see no reason SE won't fix these with firmware updates just like they do on their other platforms. They're just bugs and every ohone by every oem has bugs there is no getting away from this. Look back on my posts, you will see I have always maintained that OEM's, and SE is no exception but neither are they alone, need to do more testing prior to release but tbh I don't think they will ever stop using the general public to beta test their devices.

@Max
I wasn't accusing you of being a culprit i was just stating what happened and whilst of course i agree no device is perfect on release and indeed needs some fixing. The issues i have raised concern basic functionality besides the panels of course and once again the point is these are not problems on other WM6.1 devices but are on the X1 so why is it so?
I also can't agree that SE had time constraints as this was a device announced in February and released September/October which is 7-8 months later and that really has to be plenty of time to have tested and fixed them. Just how long will it be before SE even release an updated firmware? Lets face it if it wasn't for some brilliant work by users who have developed and shared these tweaks where would a lot of users be? What about the users that don't visit forums and don't know about these tweaks and fixes?
Also i never suggested we should hate SE for this but surly they should be held accountable for their actions or in this case lack of.
