how many people actually "buy" Windows?
btw Is it just me or have all the PC/Lappy adverts on TV gone back to being advertised as having Windows XP? Definetly the ones from PC World.

Every time that you purchase a new notebook or pre-assembled PC, you're shelling a hundred-odd bucks on a valid serial # that allows you to use Windows.

Well, it's a bit like the ads they do for Royal Mail and the Post office, it's more to make them feel good about themselves really, rather than offering you a product you actually cant get elsewhere

Smacks of desperation TBH, maybe the profusion of umpc`s with linux preinstalled and ultra low prices have made some very small inroads into ms profit margins?? Very few big name pc manufacturers ship pc`s "clean" with no os and when they show a % that have sold like this ms hassle them as to why they are selling them without their software on them (this happened to Dell a while back), so even when you excercise choice there are consequences
If you watch the tv ad`s for pcworld they are now offering "phone/help/tech supp" addons for something like £80!!!! what a bargain........not, ring in with your problem and get help from some spotty teenager who`s pc knowledge extends as far as "fitting a hard drive for a mate" and "pwning"on CS, its a ripoff and is there purely to spin money from an already saturated market.
The sooner a certain companies stranglehold on the software market is broken the better for all of us (cheaper too)
