we're talking about sound quality in using headset.
What are you thinking about sound quality in SE phone? is there just influence by the HPM and Acoustics driver?
if a Cyber-shot phone with music player using the same headset and acoustics driver from a Walkman Phone, will produce same quality sound like a walkman?

Actually I think SE uses the same audio hardware for all their phones, so the drivers play a role in determining sound quality while speakers have minimal effect.

Actually I'd have to disagree partly. The drivers can make a big difference (for example W980 drivers make big improvement to W910) - however a good pair of headsets will make good improvements too. I would actually say a high quality headset (like $150 plus jobbie) would make more difference than drivers, but since drivers are free why not do that too?
Another factor is compression. Even with stock driver and HPM-70 headset, if your MP3 are ripped at only 128Kbps you will be under utilising the equipment. The best performance tip for any music phone, is to rip audio at atleast 256, preferably 320Kbps. The next is to get better headphones, the HPM-70 is a good starting point. Don't use the standard cybershot headphones. Better if you can afford it.
And of course, regardless of what else you do, also mod the drivers, since it's free you might as well.

Not at all. Walkman is just a marketing gimmick. It always has been. Do you think the early "walkman" cassette players from other brands weren't as good as a Sony branded "Walkman"? Of course not. Pioneer, Phillips, Teac and others also had good quality units. It's just that Sony started the ball rolling so their branding became the generic term for portable cassette players. It didn't mean they were better.
Same in the SE line up. Walkman is just a marketing tool, but they haven't actually given non walkman phones any advantage other than HPM-70 and HPM-82 style headsets and pretty branding (and in some models there is better ergonomics in the music player). But actual sound quality is fairly standard across all their range.

I use a Sennheiser HD-215; it's huge, but sound quality is superb. Bass is also very good, so I don't need or even want settings like Megabass, because it only gives me a distorted sound. Too bad I still can't get the same volume, dynamics and clearity on my C702 yet as I have on my G900 with soundModLight. G900 is my best "Walkman" ever since the early eighties! (thanks to swmail for soundModLight).
Not really an answer to the question, but to me all SE in-ear headphones suck, so I only use the cable part.
