Its is good news its been my main concern of choosing a sumsung symbian handset over a nokia.
I will so far its not been to successful.
Its failed on 4% on loading update files! Not as smooth as nokia's software update.
Ill try my wired pc in case its the wifi connection on this pc.
It says its going to update from XXHH7 to XXHJ3 so ill see if I can see any changes.
Just checked its up to 5% but its very slow so hopefully its my pc!

***UPDATE*** Its not the pc. Samsungs update process if flaky at best. Firstly it takes about 4 hours to download the firmware files! (im on 10mb broadband) and as reported by several people on the innov8 forum mine stopped at 27% Luckily the phone still worked so I started again this time leaving it overnight.
I awoke to find it stopped at 27% again so disconnected the phone. This time the updater software detected a failure and the phone wouldnt boot.
It told me to go in recovery mode and began the update again. This also failed but the phone did reboot.
Now when I try to update it recognises there was a failure and makes me go into recovery mode but then fails everytime.
I cant go for a standard update now as the phone is not recognised.
The problem seems to be when it gets to 27% the software disconnects and reconnects the phone but the usb driver doesnt appear to kick in even though i've installed it.
The phone appears to be working now but I am just about ready to give up as its the most frustrating experience on updating a phone Ive had!!!

yeah its certainly sloppy I finally got it to update but what a trial! It turned out my vista needed updating to ensure the us drivers worked but when pc studio recognises the fone thru a us cable you think you hav this covered already! To be honest I haven't seen any change except for a game asphalt4 now instead of 3. the worse thing was it wudnt update on another machine because it required the original machine it had failed on to recognise that the process had failed??? My other machine just said the fone was incompatible for an update. Hopefully samsung can speed up this process as its almost an overnight job whereas nokias are usually about 20 mins to update.

After a couple of days the only real significant change I can find on the new firmware is the battery that appears to have improved somewhat.

Admittedly I've not used it much but its been on for 2days had a little video recording done and made a couple off calls and its still on 5 bars which does seem better than it was on the old firmware.

On a side note is it me or does the blink detection or smile detection not work?
My friends omnia takes a pic when a smile ids detected mine doesn't and It will take a photo with if your blinking or not even with blink detection switched on any other innov8 users found this?

i would say to install the firmware again cause it may not have been installed proprelly , but in this case i think its not a good idea! Im very disappointed with Samsung. Even SE first update software worked good and i update my phones since P900... 3 or 4 years ago and never got a problem... and nokia phones since last year and i must say is even faster than on SE! (at least on symbian phones)

No its definately worked its just there arn't many changes Ashphalt 4 is therenow instead of asphalt 3 and the batteries better. Still no sign of the widgets as shown in the demo on the fone???lol

To update the firmware via pc studio you need to download the latest version of pc studio you can get it from the samsung mobile division site.
