In short, I need one.
I can't really afford to pay any more than £80 for it, but I could go over if it had something I could really use.
Just looking for a bit of advice on what to buy, and what to avoid.
ie. I don't want to buy from brands with known high failure rates, or who have pants customer support.
Don't care about size, not too fussed about noise, just would like it to connect via Firewire (400 or 800) and connecting it up to the mains isn't an issue.
GO!
Thanks.

I use a Seagate one and it's been fine.. I paid £85 for a 500gb one a year or so ago and it's FW400 so prolly cheap and chips now....

hotukdeals are currently showing
this WD 1tb xternal drive that I have been using for about 6 months or so without issue for £63.61
I also have the previous 500gb version from a year before that and its still going without issue too
they're USB 2 though but I'm fairly sure you can get a firewire version

Reg, could you send me a link to that one please? I can't find it, and I've been searching for a while now.
Mass, I can't find any WD drives that connect through FireWire and fit my budget, and I think I'm going to have to give up on that one. Thanks anyway, though.
and Andrew, I can't really buy this one online, thanks for the info anyhow.

Until I saw this....
"In-store Price £97.86"
Micro Anvika have the same drive for £88.08 in store, but I reckon I'm just going to have to leave it until I have a bit more money. Seems the good stuff is still out of my price range.

I think the WD MyBook World edition has a firewire connector option...

Finally got it sorted!
Over the budget, but the uncle gifted me a bit of money, and I put it to this!
7,200rpm, FireWire 800 and it makes good use of OS X's power saving capabilities.
