> What can I expect via IR?
Bookmark topic
I have just ordered an IR adapter for my desktop pc , to be used for sending Backgrounds and tones to my T68. The wap charges are crippling me.
So how much better can I expect the backgrounds to look? Whats the limit for size of pic when sending it via IR?
Thanks in advance

you can't expect the backgrounds to look any better if it's the same data your sending.

You can expect better images because in wap you can download backgrounds with only 3k and with IR you can download backgrounds with 8k, therefore they can be more colorfull and of better quality!

Yes I realise that if i send the same file it will look the same........doh (did you really think I was that thick?)
I meant with being able to send larger files, just how much better will they look, more colour and detail etc.

And on the subject is 8k the limit via IR? I am sure I have heard of people sending 10k and above?

depending on what operating system your running you might also have problems with the software, i'm using xp and i've had to put the connection speed right down to 9600, and it still sometimes disconnects after a few minutes, i had it working on maximum after i installed it but the first time i restarted all the problems started! it's a real pain....

I am using WinXP and I have no such problems. I believe that it depends on the IR device, not the operating system. My connection speed is 115200 and works good with my pictures.
You can expect a bit better images, but don't imagine that they would look like real photos! The problem is the 256 colours and not so much the size of the pic itself. I am not 100% sure but I think the maximum size IR and bluetooth can send is 8 Kbytes.

8 kb is a so called "limit". You can upload pictures larger than that,..up to 10-11kb, but its not recommendable.
I noticed that with a bigger picture (e.g 8kb) the phone is slower in shutting down/opening up.
If pictures look better ? hmmm, that depends on the pictures themselves.
If its a very "clean" picture with good colors and no shades/light,..then theres not much difference in 3 kb and 8 kb.
BUT if its a more complex picture, then you'll see the difference.
It does make a difference if a picture have 32 or 256 colors. Shades/lights will look better.
