I was struck when reading this article by the realization that as our phones approach the complexity of PC's, the learning curve rises as well.
Very interested in your firsthand experiences. My very first phone was the Nokia 2650, a simple GSM model that was easy to use & reliable.

Graduated to the SE K608i, which was an offspring of the K600, and was the low cost 3G handset of it's time :

This is where I cut my teeth on mobile browsing, camera & video. The UI made learning this easy to use, though the lack of a memory card made image storage juggling a bit challenging.

My 3G baby steps on the K608i made the transition to the K800i very easy. The fact that both phones were very rugged, efficient and easy to learn made my transition to the 3G world relatively painless.
The LG KU990 Viewty was a big step for me, not only because it was my first touchscreen phone - the menu layout differed in many respects from the SE phones I so loved. It's not that the UI is non-userfriendly, the framework was just very different from what I was used to.
The T700i UI is a substantial improvement over the K800i because it brings together the best of the W,K & T lines in a seamless manner. I regard this UI as the best I've used so far.

Phones (grayscale screen phones not counted):
1st: Nokia 3530 = basic mobile phone thus very easy & very simple to use
2nd: SE T610 = the menu is not that complicated but slow when navigating; sms typing is also slow
3rd: Moto E398 = quite complicated to use & very slow when typing sms messages
4th: Asus V70 = samsung-like menu interface & quite weird in typing sms messages
5th: SE K608i = fast menu navigation & a very capable 3G phone with the budget price tag
6th: SE K750i = good quality screen & superb cybershot camera
7th: Nokia N91 = wonderful music player with built in hard disk but lacks front facing camera for video calls
8th: SE K850i = very clear screen but camera is just average but still a good phone
Current: iPhone 3G = very big clear screen & the touchscreen interface is superb

My iPhone is perfect to use, although it can slow down at times, it's fine and the UI is simple.
