Hi everyone. I am starting a new project today in the same vein as Colorware in the US.
Basically i'll be offering a mail in service initially to create custom paintwork for your mobile phones. Initially the service will offer around 50 colours and about 15 speciality coats (including glow in the dark, glitter, stone, velvet and Hammer hard) and will cost between £30-50 depending on coat style and colour (as some colours require mixing which is a precise art in itself).
What am looking for is some feedback really on what you lot think. Colours have been arranged (basically not many colours you cant have!) and the special coatings have arrived already.
What would you expect from this service if you were a customer? etc etc. and do u think the price is reasonable for a 5 coat thickness (is still only about .1mm thick once applied) paint job? Should i charge more for certain phones and less for others?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated and i'll update with some pics once the initial batch of paints have arrived.
J.

I think it's an awesome idea...
Can you do the same as colorware? ie Can I send you my Mac?
If you do do this my BB will be off to you in no time, well a housing for you to paint...
If you gloss cover it would it be possible to add a motif to it?
but in essence the idea is awesome and the price is about spot on...

I was looking at Colorware the other day, and thought it was a great idea.
Now, like Colorware, would you take the complete phone and dis-assemble, paint and the re-assemble, or would it be just be the casing that was sent in?

@fatreg... am hopin to start with mobiles and branch out, to be honest can do anything plastic or wooden.
Well after the last coat i apply a clear 'armour' coat to add scratch resistance so if u can supply a very very thin motif on vinyl or plastic i should be able to apply it on top of the colour but underneath the clear layer thus making it stay on and not rub off.
@truffle... i basically take the handset apart and use the original housings as they fit best. or if someone sends a housing i can colour it as well.
As said in prev post the paint is thinly layered on. you get 5 thin layers giving a better colour and toughness. colours wont fade or yellow so will look good for a while.
