I am after an External hard drive around 500gb. Not too bothered about firewire connection, and wanted to pay around £50-70 tops.
I have seen the earlier thread onthis topic also.

yeah, I've had the 500gb (which my son now has) and now I have the 1TB, both from the mybook series.
Can't say I researched them much as I bought mainly when I saw them on hotukdeals for a good price.
they're both still working perfectly and I've had no issues, so I guess I would recommend them
somehow though, even 1TB isn't enough these days...

Well I have just been and bit the bullet. 1TB Western digital My Book for £84.99 from Comet.
I thought for the £10 or so pounds extra, I might as well get the 1TB.
Thanks everyone for your help.
