Having dropped my T68 in a bowl of Miso Soup (and that is NOT a joke), it, predictably, stopped working. I took it apart as quickly as possible and dried it out. Nothing.
The service centre returned it to me as unrepairable and I got a new T68i on insurance.
When I got home, I tried to turn on the T68 and IT WORKED after a fashion.
Now, my problem is this:

1) The battery won't charge
2) The battery discharges VERY quickly

(In both these cases, the same is true if I change the battery)

3) The phone turns on and immediately changes to "port hands-free" profile.

I had the phone in pieces and cleaned it thoroughly with meths, brushes and the like and removed all the soup residues.

It is still the same.
I notice that there is a small patch of discolouration on the circuit board which appears to be underneath the green plastic coating. This is just above the bit where the current from the charger comes in.

Is there any hope?

...I don't think it gonna be fixed in some way... If they told you it cannot be fixed... it means ...it cannot be fixed! Ususaly after water contamination, the board gets damaged as well as some components. It cannot be fixed... means it would be too expensive to replace the damaged parts and it would be better to get a new phone rather than fixing the damaged one.

In your case, some circuitry must be mulfuctioning, responsible for charging the battery. On the other hand, it might be a small problem which could be fixed in a non-SE-approved way, i.e. link-wires etc. I don't think it's worth getting into this trouble...

Take off the screen and put the phone in de-ionised water. this will stop any forieghn bodys burning the board. leave to soak for 24 hours and place to dry natrauly in a airing cuboard or a boiler cuboar to dry off. again leave for 24 hours and any copper reactions from the board should dis appear leaving the fone spottless of marks. then try the phone

De-ionised water... for car bateries. Get it from a garage.

Many thanks for the posts. I had been told by a mate that quite often they find "water damage" and just reject it out of hand without checking it.

I will try the deionised water and drying it out again. There is nothing to be lost as I have the new phone anyway.

Keep you posted!

The de-ionised water will stop the corroding on the board but it wont undo the damage already done... so I woundn't have to much hope getting the phone working again with such simple methods... U will probably have to replace some part(s) in the phone...
I hope i'm wrong but.....
Good luck!!!
make sure you let us know how it turns out...

you cant bust buy stoping the corrosion the current can then try and run freely again. (the corosion or dis color is when the metal breaks up and ussauly looks green. this some times acts as a conductor to other parts so clearing it may free up some of the short circuits.
