I have a hard drive split into two C:\ and D:\. The C: drive is quite full (Win Vista) and needs a formatting which I can do from C:\ using Acer's security tools.
The complication is I have put a beta of Windows 7 on the D:\ drive. I like this and want to use it, with the other drive, until it expires in August.
If I wipe the C:\ drive with Acer's tools, will it leave the D:\ drive alone and then still dual boot?

Can you use the disc management tools in the admin section of the control panel (win xp)....CP/admin tools/computer mangement. this might bypass the built in acer tools. The acer prog might overwrite the MBR

Thanks. The C drive has Vista on it, rather than XP. I don't want the D drive overwritten as i have transferred all the useful stuff on to the D drive so I can format the other.
All Iwant to know will the formatting procedure treat it as two seperate drives, rather than one split into two?

Hmm... Why don't you simply format the C drive from Windows 7 on your D drive? Wouldn't that solve your problem? As far as I know, formatting your other partition this way will not affect your D drive.

Good reply. Hadn't thought of that one. What i wanted to do was to use the Acer recovery software on the C drive to wipe and then put on all the default programs that it came with originally.
They don't give you disks nowadays, you get the software somewhere on the drive for re-installation.

Not quite sure how the Acer recovery program works, but if there are no recovery disks and the recovery program wipes out all partitions, then I suggest backing up everything to an external hard-disk before doing a recovery.

That's bad! It came from Acer as two seperate drives. Have to think this one through.

the vaio recovery software gives you the option of doing it all or only one partition.
either way, the acer software will surely tell you what its going to do with plenty of warnings and you can cancel if its not what you want, so why not just fire it up and see what options you have?
