> Issues: P800 and Apple's iSync
Bookmark topic
I have not been able to get my P800 to sync with Apple's iSync.
Fact:
Mac OS X 10.2.3
iSync 1.0 (v64)
I paired the P800 with the Mac using a USB Bluetooth adapter. That was not too much of a problem. Although I had to do it a few times. I also have to set the Mac OS's Bluetooth settings to scan for "compatible phones".
BTW: the P800 need to have its Bluetooth options set to "On", unlike the T68i where it can be set to "Automatic".
When I tried to add a device within iSync. iSync was not able to recognize the P800 as a "mobile phone" nor a "PDA". So after searching, it returns with the message failing to find any devices.
I guess we have to wait for Apple to update iSync.

Ok... There are a couple of common misunderstandings that lead people to belive this should work.
* Apple does NOT use SyncML in iSync they use IrMC. P800 does not support IrMC.
* P800 supports SyncML. Well it does. Just not via Bluetooth as per defined by the SyncML standard. I tried and it don't currently work.
So basically there is no common ground the two things can work on. Supposedly the partnership between SE and Apple states that Apple has to write the drivers and sync software for SE products (according to SE anyway). But as long P800 don't support SyncML I don't think we will see any sync software on Mac that works over Bluetooth.

Harleydog,
Thanks for looking.
iSync is great, especially now with the final version. Apple fixed many problems since the Beta release.
When I had my iBook and was using my T68i, I had my G4 Dual, iBook, iPod, NR70V and T68i all synchronized. It was a true demonstration of Mac OS' superiority.
Now as soon as I am able to do the same with the P800, I will sell the NR70V and T68i.
PS: I've already sold the iBook in preparation for the new PowerBook 12"

Tiran,
Are you sure abou iSync not supportin SyncML? I thought it did. I also thought that the T68i supports SyncML, that's why it also works with iSync. Am I mistaken?

@vinko
Yes. I have done extensive research on the matter. And there are no hints that SyncML should be present anywhere in iSync. Also the T68i don't support SyncML on bluetooth either. At least that's what I have been told from someone who should know. And my own small tests confirm it too.
@Harleydog
The Bluetooth File Exchange app included in Mac OS X 10.2 (and the BT preview for 10.1.x) works just fine for transfering files of any kind to the P800

I left a message at
www.apple.com/isync at the feedback option. If everybody asks for P800 compablility, maybe it'll speed things up a little.

AFAIK, SyncML is a standard for syncing wirelessly to internet servers, not to your computer at home. Therefore, iSync doesnt use SyncML.
