I can't figure out how should the album image be stored to show up in media player. Once a thumbnail appeared but unfortunately i deleted the image. Tried some names however none worked. Is jpg the format? How should image resolution be?

Album art ( image shown in media player) can be added to a track by editing the ID3 tag of a mp3 file. If you are using itune, then right click on the file and select get info. Then add the picture you want in artwork.
You can download itune from apple official site for free.
You can edit ID3 tag in most of the media player like win media player,real player etc
