Had a thought today, unlike other days when i have no thoughts at all, why dont sim cards have the huge memory capacity that memory cards have? that way when ever you move your sim to a new phone all your contacts, photos, videos, music, podcasts everything would just move with you, also why cant the sim card just slot into a port in the side of a device, rather than having to remove battery cover, and battery.
I know some clever sods going to shoot this down in flames, but if i dont ask i guess ill never know.

You actually have a great idea. There are products in the marketplace today called "MegaSIM" - which are exactly what you are explaining.

The key problem with the idea is the cost of the memory. Today SIM cards cost the MNO (maybe) 50 cents or less. Adding memory pushes the SIM card into the M2 or microSD cost range.

While this is to be expected, the MNO doesn't like it because of the extra inventory they need to carry - and more to the point - FLASH memory is notorious for quick ASP declines. So any inventory starts losing value right away.

Hope this explains it...
