My wife needs a netbook and I'm checking out prices for the MSI Wind, Advent 4211 and Samsung NC10

so... if anyone has one of these, or similar that I hadn't considered, that they no longer want/need I'd be interested to hear...

also.. just to mention that she is not interested in >1.5kg laptops/netbooks of any kind, and it would need to be 10"+
thanks

all of above suck

ive been disappointed with several netbooks, including acer aspire one and msi wind

Lenovo ideapad S10

excellent build quality, lenovo reliability. both ram and hard drive are upgradeable (ram upgradeable to 2.5 gig )

i run ubuntu on it using wubi (creates a dual boot with xp without messing up your system) and it is uber quick

What's wrong with the NC10? I've heard great things about them?

Thanks. I did look at the S10... I should mentioned that XP compatibility is required for software she needs to run... and since the S10 is £80 more than I can get the Advent 4211 for, and the same price that I can get the NC10, and yet it only has the crummy 3 cell battery like the 4211 whereas the NC10 has the 6 cell battery, I discounted the S10 from the options

i.e.
Wind/4211 refurb for £199 + £43 for a 6 or 9 cell battery
NC10 £279 with better screen and standard 6 cell battery

ram and HD are upgradeable on each of the options as I've already found various pages for that. Ram tp 2gb is dead easy and she won't need an HD upgrade

The expresscard on the S10 is a possible advantage as I do have a 3g/hsdpa express card I no longer use that she could use for non wifi data.

I'll check around and see if I can find a better price for the S10 before totally discounting it

lenovo have one from their shop for £305, with a 6 cell battery (which gives me 5-6 hours batt life) and includes bluetooth

£20 more than the Samsung but proven build quality and good costumer service imo well worth it

i think if you look around you can find a 6 cell S10 cheaper

also take a look at the good old eeepc's (allough not to my preference)

thanks, but I can't see how you arrived at a price of £305 with 6 cell at the lenovo site?

the closest I can come is £331 and thats for the 80gb version whereas the samsung has 6 cell and 160gb

@Masseur: I'll let you know what the HP Mini 1000 is like after tomorrow. It may be worth looking into?

Not sure if you've already purchased something, but I got my HP Mini 1000 today and its great. Its quick, the screen is impressive, the keypad is perfect (I can type as fast as on my full size Mac laptop), and in terms of design, it's one of the best looking netbooks I've seen.

One of my concerns going into my purchase was that it has a slower PATA hard drive, but I've been using this all day and haven't experienced any situations where I've even noticed a slow down.

So far, I completely would recommend it.
