Hello everyone,

I am from Singapore and will be going to Santa Cruz (California) in May for a Summer job and I have a SE T68i on hand.

Could someone recommend me a prepaid card? Basically I am looking for one that

1. Has support for overseas calling/SMS (since I will be calling or receiving calls and SMSes from home)
2. Has reasonable overseas calling rates
3. Preferbably has GPRS so I can send home photos via email
4. Acceptable coverage

Any other suggestions of considerations I should keep in mind are gladly welcomed. For example, maybe you could suggest that a fixed mobile line deals would be a cheaper choice.

Also, here in Singapore we have overseas calling card. Cards that can be bought to call overseas at a much cheaper price. Is there something similar over there and what are they called?

Thanks.

Sorry there is no GSM service provider that provides prepaid service with GPRS and overseas calling.

I have not seen any prepaid data either. For a sim Cingular and T-Mobile are the only GSM carriers offering prepaid. I know T-Mobile offers international calling on prepaid, Cingular probbably does too.

If you're also going to have a computer with you I'd try to find out if there are any community 802.11 networks in your area.

Thanks for your replies.

The reason why I asked if there were any prepaid card that supported GPRS was because I wanted to know if buying the camera attachment for my phone was worth it. I guess I will just use my digital camera to take photos to send home at a cyber cafe or something.

So I guess the above-mentioned carriers are the only prepaid around the area. Could someone direct me to their prepaid rates on SMS/Calls/Overseas Calls?

Look for the EasySpeak SIM-card at any T-Mobile store, they sell them at $70 ($20 for SIM-card and $50 airtime). Alternately, you can get the card + the phone (Nokia 3390) for the same amount of money on Amazon.com.

Cingular does not sell SIM-cards without the phone.
