I can't seem to update my firmware on Xperia X1, I am new to all this so am trying to find instructions on how to do it, any help would be so very helpful, I have tried to search for instructions on Google but I can't find anything anywhere that will help. Thank you to anyone that can help me..

welcome to Esato

please start by saying what you have done and any error messages you have received

Presumably you are using the Sony Ericsson Update Service?

Sorry, yes I am using the Ericsson update, I switched off my phone put battery back in, plugged in USB cableinto laptop , then I got to page 2 of 2 where it tells you to hold down bottom volume key and the on key till you get the coloured stripe screen, then plug USB cable to phone I did all that OK then nothing the screen stayed the same stripes, I left it for a godd 5-10mins and nothing happened, do I have to do anything else? Sorry to be a pain another prob I am having is that all my contacts appear twice and I can't find out how to get them to appear only once, thanks.

I think it's just you are not doing it in sequence....turn the phone off...take out the battery....put the battery back in....I would suggest removing the memory card and sim while flashing....don't connect the phone yet....push the power button and the volume down button at the same time...should see a try colored screen come up on the phone....now start the sony update program...choose your country, phone, then click next...it will tell you to do the whole battery etc...when it asks you to plug in the phone...then do so not before.... It has to download a 204 mb file to update the rom on your phone...may take a bit depending on your internet speed...then it will enter a white/grey screen wiith a blue bar on it...you will see on your computer screen progress of the update.

Do a google search for Xperia Tweak...by default the phone will copy your contacts to the phone from the sim...so you will see both sets sim/phone.In the Xperia Tweak program there is an option to disable sim contacts....

Hope this helped...

Thank you Wild Child, I have done just as you have told me to but it still stays on the multi coloured screen I have left it connected for over 5 minutes but nothing just the stripy screen, does this mean that I have the latest firmware on my X1? I am at a loss.

If you are on a vista machine you will have issues updating the phone...I would suggest an XP machine.
