Well my first contract with O2 is coming to it's end (in 19 days) and I'm up for renewing it.
I am currently on a £30 p/m tarrif for 12 months with cash back from e2Save.
So if I've got this right I need to ring up retentions, however will I need to be threatening to leave O2, claiming that T-Mobile for example are offering me a better deal, or will they naturally offer me a good deal?
Is it also a bit hopeful to be trying to haggle down to a decent phone (something C902+ standard), 200 odd minutes and another 200 texts and if I can get it then an internet bold-on too for £15 p/m?
Also, how close to the end of the contract will I need to be contacting O2?

Usually in the last 30days of the contract do you need to let them know.
Best thing to do is have another tariff on another network that you're prepared to switch to if worst comes to worst, tell O2 you want to leave, see if they'll match the deal (or better it), then take it from there.
Threatening to leave is silly. If they can do you a deal, nowadays they usually will.
If not, switch to plan b. You're the customer after all.
