> PC Out to 42" TV

Hi, need to output a PC to a 42" tv. Any idea what sort of cables and grpahics cards I should use?

If so then you'll want a VGA/DVI - HDMI cable (depending on which port your PC has.

i'm guessing that a tv like that should have a vga port, so it should be a case of running a vga cable from the pc's vga port to the vga port on the TV

i use a ATi Rsdeon 2400HD Pro with hdmi out put can pick them up for about £30 on ebay
i use it to hook up to a 40" 7 series samsung

It comes down to whether its a 1080p TV and whether you'll be outputting 1080p movies to it. Most video cards these days will easily be able to handle the 1920x1080 resolution.
If it is 1080p you'll be outputting, it'll come down more to the power of your processor speed and RAM, rather than the video card.
If 720p sourced outputs, you should be pretty much fine with a mid-range setup (Dual Core processor/2GB RAM). I have a Radeon 2400HD pro but not tested it out on my tele yet, but that card will be more than capable of doing the job

Also VGA doesnt carry sound, so that needs to be taken in to consideration ie an extra cable. HDMI obviously does both. Unless you've already mapped that out and connecting your sound card to a surround or whatever....

my Vaio laptop has a HDMI port (as well as a VGA port) and if I connect the HDMI to my large screen TV the results are most clearly much better than when I connect via VGA
if you're wanting to connect from pc to feed videos or iplayer etc then you'll really want the best and that will be via a digital connection so you'll want a HDMI or DVI port but like VGA, DVI doesn't carry sound and so you'll need to use the PC sound out port which really doesn't produce good sound unless you also have a great AMP to play it though. Playing the PC out sound through the TV sound in port rarely produces good sound in my experience

Yeah but with VGA you are more likely to get the true resolution output from the PC. With a digital connection like DVI-HDMI there may be a potential for overscan and the resolution might not set right.... It does depend on the set entirely though
